This section of the website contains core information and resources to support members of the YorOK workforce working with disabled children and children with additional needs.
York's local offer enables parents and young people to see what disability services are available in their area and how to access them.
All staff working with children need to ensure that they have a good awareness of the needs of disabled children and those with additional needs. Level 1 training can be accessed through the disability training website. You'll gain a certificate when you've completed this.
If you'd like to access level 2 training, please speak to your line manager, as this training is delivered to teams and services. The training can then be booked through the workforce development unit.
There's also a bespoke web based training for taxi drivers on the disability training website
The City of York Council have signed the national Every Disabled Child Matters Charter (an accessible version is available to download). The good practice in York is recognised in the ‘Positive Impact of Every Child Matters Charter’
The partnership of agencies in York through the YorOK board has gone further and developed a local charter which sets out what those working with children, young people and families have committed to doing to improve outcomes for disabled children in York.

The Parent Mentoring Service uses trained volunteers to provide one to one support to families in York who have a disabled child/young person or child/young person with additional needs. As a parent/carer of a disabled child you may also want to consider applying for a Personal Budget. Personal budgets are a way of arranging social care services for disabled children, young people and their families.
Personal budgets give you more control and enables you to decide who supports your child.
